A story collection project of how we are living during the #Covid19 pandemic in Canada & around the world
Glimmers of Hope in Pandemic Times
-
“A news article saying that a vaccine would be developed this summer.” (Brampton, ON)
-
“Going to the grocery store and being able to find meat on discount gave me some hope because it feels a bit like a return to my old days when I used to go a lot more often to grocery stores to hunt for bargains. It's just that sense of normalcy and also of getting a good deal on something I want.” (Toronto, ON)
-
“The doves hanging around my kitchen window (there is a large airshaft there) are building a nest. One of them came to my window with a stick; it was like they were showing me what they were up to. There are honeybees in my lavender and rosemary plants. I haven't checked much social media today but I did have a listen to Patrick Stewart's Sonnet A Day Instagram video this morning. That has been a wonderful way to start the day. This project is also something I look forward to.” (Istanbul, Turkey)
-
“My partner's face as he woke me up this morning. He smiled and it filled me with joy, having him with me reminds me that there is a future ahead of us, and this can't go on forever."
-
“Me and my family have found the little episodes that John Krasinski hosts called Some Good News where he does little acts of kindness for people really entertaining and cool. It's just really cool to see someone do that even though they didn't necessarily need to, and it's nice to see some good happening during this time. I enjoy the fact that he's working to put smiles on people's faces during this time.” (Orangeville, ON)
-
“I just get to see my family smile and laugh together every day and that gives me hope because no matter how much happens with Covid, I'll always have my family.” (Brampton, ON)
-
“So many- especially in recent days. In Nova Scotia, we are going through the worst Canadian massacre in history. Covid has honestly taken a back seat. Signs in windows, chalk drawings on driveways, flags.” (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia)
-
“Today (28/4/20) is our first day stepping down from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3. On my walk at just past 6am, there were lights on in a few houses (that has not been true for the past month) and more traffic (nearly 10 cars drove past on the main road). It feels like the town is starting to wake up.” (Havelock, New Zealand).
-
“My 71 year old mom has made and donated over 100 triple layer masks to front-line workers. She is now working on 40 masks for a local Women's Emergency Shelter.” (Calgary, Alberta)
-
“A homemade video of sidewalk art and posters in house windows that shout encouragement to Essential workers; our online church services and midweek homilies; tribute to Nova Scotia all made me feel positive about the responses of humans to our pandemic as well as the tragedy in Nova Scotia.” (Toronto, ON)
-
“A rainbow :)” (Toronto, ON)
-
“The weather looks really nice today. The past couple of days have had some flurries and/or rain, so if today is sunny I'm going to take a nice long walk in the afternoon. And I know the daffodils are in bloom now so I can't wait to spot some.” (King City, ON)
-
“Continued creativity by so many! Seeing Rod Stewart singing with his daughter IN their home.” (Calgary, Alberta)
-
“It doesn’t exactly give me hope but memes help me realize that we’re all in this together and give me a good laugh when I feel down.” (Istanbul, Turkey)
-
“Not anything specific, but I like reading all the posts about how much carbon emissions have gone down. It's kind of nice to think about the break we're finally giving the Earth.” (Grimsby, ON)
-
“I read an article which said that we are in the peak of the outbreak which means that the curve should start to flatten in 1-3 weeks.” (Toronto, ON)
-
“Stronger Together Concert.” (Thornhill, ON)
-
“News story about Captain Tom, the almost 100 year old who raised a huge amount of money for the NHS by walking 100 times around his garden, having a train named after him! So heartwarming and inspirational.” (Buckinghamshire, UK)
-
“I saw on an Instagram Post that today Ontario reported 347 new cases, which is the lowest in a day in more than 3 weeks. This gives me hope that if we continue to isolate, we can flatten the curve even more! 🙏🏽” (Toronto, ON)
-
“The Parry Sound food banks daily updates of unbelievable donations from our community. All over people are giving more than ever. When it ends we can only hope it will continue.” (MacDougall, ON)
